Completely Dreadful
Things went horribly wrong. It was a real fiasco. We tried to {compensate|handle the situation, but it was like trying to stop a tsunami with a cocktail stick. We're still picking up the shards and feeling the impact of this epic fail.

After all is said and done, you are left with a sense of utter perplexity. You question about the nature of it all. Was this some kind of twisted art experiment?
Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?
A Disaster of Epic Proportions
The earthquake struck with devastating force, consuming entire towns in its wake. Buildings collapsed like fragile toys, and the screams that ensued was deafening. Thousands were trapped beneath rubble, their fate uncertain. The magnitude of the disaster was unprecedented, leaving survivors to face a future forever altered.

Awful Day Ever
It all started with a case of uncontrollable hair. I couldn't figure it to look right. As I was dashing out the door, I stumbled and with a thud all over myself. To make matters worse, I was totally late for work.
I in a state of utter panic. My {boss|mentor|was absolutely furious. I attempted to explain, but it was pointless.
The rest of the day was just as bad. seemed to conspire against me. I get anything done.
By the time I reached my destination, I was here utterly defeated. This day, this atrocious day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.
Things Went From Bad to Absolutely Terrible
It all started out terribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then it went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to scream into a pillow.
